Publications Board
1. Structural Reform
Every year, the PB accepts a large number of students. Unfortunately, many of these members are inactive throughout the year and do not contribute towards the working of the PB.
This year, the PB will implement structural reforms as follows:
Through cutting down on members, the PB will be able to work more effectively and efficiently throughout the year
PB Chairman
Vice-Chairmen(2)
Head of English
Head of Chinese
Head of Administration and Graphics
5 English Editors
5 Chinese Editors
5 Administrators and Graphic Designers
2. Reforming the Lasallian
The Lasallian is currently issued in the form of magazines, with three issues written every year. Writing, proofreading and even designing the Lasallian poses a problem as publications can easily be delayed when at least one person does not fulfill their role.
As such, the PB will introduce a mechanism in which articles are released one by one on our online platform. This makes it easier to proofread and improves efficiency in the long run.
However, the Lasallian will still be available, only now in newspaper form. Every month, the PB will collect the articles written throughout that timeframe and compile the most relevant articles to put into a monthly paper. To provide an incentive for students to read the paper rather than simply go online, the Lasallian newspaper will include exclusive articles as well as a Comics section.
This year, the Lasallian will also try to involve the entire student community through various measures. They include:
-
Opening up a space for opinion articles
-
Communicate with language teachers for sections like Letter to the Editor
-
Allow for freelance stories and other articles
By implementing these measures, we hope to increase readers’ participation and make the Lasallian more relevant in the community.
3. Study Guide
Besides simply writing the Lasallian and various other articles, the PB will create a study guide to help students prepare for their exams.
The Study Guide will help students create attainable goals, plan out their schedule, and improve their grades. To do so, the Study Guide will contain various tips and tricks from students and teachers alike. In order to make the Study Guide even more useful, tips provided will not only be very general, but will be specific to each subject.
To ensure a high quality publication, PB members will reach out to teachers as well as students who have a track record of performing well in school.
The Guide will be sold before the Christmas break and also before the Easter holidays on the new Online Shop
4. Textbook Ordering
The PB will continue its textbook ordering as it has in the past years. Students will be able to order textbooks according to the subject and publisher.
The ordering system will take place online, utilizing the new Online Shop. Students simply need to fill out a Google Form with their personal school account.
It is important that students take full advantage of this chance and improve their grades.
